Whisper's Magical Children's Hospital report for September

WHISPER'S MAGICAL HOSPITAL
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR ALWAYS SUPPORTING WHISPER'S HOSPITAL
We are so privileged to have you as part of the Whisper team. So many vulnerable patients both mothers and children are being helped because of the continuous donations we receive to buy medicine among so many medical consumables.
WHISPER'S HOSPITAL REPORT
September was not much of a busy month as compared to the previous two months. The number of patients received in September totals up to 841 patients. The reduction in the number of patients in September could have been caused by seasonal changes. We thank all our donors for the continuous support through the provision of drugs, consumables and the financial support.
The support you give to this Hospital has established a great positive impact to the community. We have been able to provide mothers with free ultrasound scans in the community to help them deliver safely and have health babies. With the great care from our team, Whisper’s Magical Children’s Hospital and Maternity is able to save so many lives.
We transfused 150 blood units to the anemic patients in September. 23 sickle cell patients were registered and 183 patients were diagnosed with malaria.
OUTREACH ULTRASOUND SCANS
Our project for the free ultrasound scan is still going on and in September the outreach team performed 81 scans on the pregnant women who cannot afford going for antenatal visits in health centers. This project is very much appreciated by women we work on. It has been considered a blessing to the community. We are currently stationed at Bugembe health center where we can access the most number of patients. Please continue supporting us with this project so that we can offer more mothers a chance to have safe deliveries. https://www.globalgiving.org/projects/stop-ugandan-women-and-children-dying-at-childbirth/

OUR BURNS UNIT
Every month Whisper receives children with severe burns. Some cases are a result of child negligence where as others are a result of domestic child abuse where by the caretaker intentionally pours hot water on the child for certain reasons. This is one of the children we received in September who was burnt by boiling water on a charcoal stove when he was playing. He was brought to Whisper's Magical Children's Hospital. We handled him well, dressing was done every after two days. The child healed steadily and was discharged. Right now he is doing much better. All this is made possible because of your generous supporthttps://www.globalgiving.org/projects/help-us-fund-the-childrens-burn-unit-in-uganda/

THE MALNOURISHED CHILDREN
In September our nutritional ward received 12 malnourished patients. Unlike the other months, most of the patients were malnourished due to lack of proper care(feeding) by the parents since most of them had babies, some were pregnant and gave all the attention to their unborn babies.
Pneumonia was the most frequent condition found in these patients. The community is not yet aware of malnutrition as some mistake it for witchcraft. They feed children with all sorts of herbs which end up damaging their systems and by the time they come to the Hospital, some systems are totally affected like the liver and spleen. We always try to create awareness about malnutrition during our morning meetings and we always advise caretakers not to give children herbal medicine. https://www.globalgiving.org/projects/help-a-malnourished-child-with-whispers-hospital/

BABY GRACE
Baby Grace was admitted in the neonatal ward on 25th September. She was brought in a very bad condition. She was severely anemic with septic wounds. The mother had lost hope because of the condition the baby was in. We handled the child with care and love. The child was transfused every time daily dressing was done. Although blood was a bit scarce in Jinja, we managed to get enough blood units for our baby and the rest of the anemic patients. The wounds healed and the baby is now home with her mother. We thank all our lovely donors who make sure that such lives of babies are saved by donating towards their treatment. https://www.globalgiving.org/projects/keep-our-childrens-hospital-open/

In August Whisper's Hospital treated 1,118 patients

WHISPER'S MAGICAL HOSPITAL
THANK YOU FOR SUPPORTING WHISPER'S HOSPITAL
We thank all our donors for the generous support towards all our charitable services. We are so privileged to have you on the Whisper team of wonderful supporters.
WHISPER'S HOSPITAL REPORT FOR AUGUST
In this month Whisper’s Magical Hospital treated 1,118 patients both in adults and pediatric sections. This is a bit lower than the total number of patients treated in July with a difference of 254 patients. This month Whisper spent 27,178,150 Ugandan shilling ($7,346) on drugs and lab supplies. We have helped so many mothers and children in the Eastern region especially those who come as emergency cases. Most families we receive in the pediatric section cannot afford health care services but Whisper is able to help them with the donations we get.
This is Umar one of the children who came with severe malaria and severe anemia. This child needed immediate attention and was admitted in the emergency ward on arrival with an Hb (Hemoglobin) of 3. This is one of the August children who were critically ill. Without Whisper's Magical Hospital, this child would have lost his life. We are so thankful to the Whisper team for saving this child's life.

THE MALNOURISHED CHILDREN
Whisper's Magical Children's Hospital is well known for rescuing and rehabilitating the malnourished children in the Eastern region of Uganda. This time round the number of malnourished children rehabilitated reduced from 20 to 13 malnourished patients. Unfortunately, we lost two patients because of severe hypoglycemia and hypothermia. We had one referral due to PTB (Tuberculosis). Other patients were treated and discharged while fully recovered. The major causes of malnutrition this month were poor feeding due to extreme poverty in different communities. Another cause of malnutrition was chronic vomiting which limited the intake of recommended daily allowances (RDAs). Through the outreach team we are able to locate these children and bring them to the Hospital for treatment. Please help us to save more of these children by donating to this project. https://www.globalgiving.org/projects/help-a-malnourished-child-with-whispers-hospital/

OUTREACH ULTRASOUND SCANS
Whisper's outreach was able to conduct 45 free ultrasound scans for mothers who cannot afford them. These scans where done in different health centers of different parishes which include Mpumudde, Nasuti and Lukoolo. This project was started to reduce on the number of abortions which has led to deaths of so many pregnant women and also to improve detection of fetal anomalies. The project is still going on in Jinja district and so many pregnant young women and mothers in the villages are being helped. Please support us to create a positive impact to the pregnant women in the community. https://www.globalgiving.org/projects/stop-ugandan-women-and-children-dying-at-childbirth/

BLOOD TRANSFUSION
One of the major challenges In August was shortage of blood. There was no blood at Jinja blood bank for quite a few days and we struggled to look for blood for our patients who were severely anemic. We managed to get some blood from Nakasero blood bank which we transfused to these severely anemic patients until the situation resolved. We transfused blood to 179 patients with a total of 247 blood units. 221 patients were diagnosed with malaria which may have caused anemia. The number of sickle cell patients increased from last month’s 24 patients to 42. These two conditions are some of the leading causes of anemia within the region. Help Whisper's Magical Children's Hospital and Maternity fight the shortage of blood in blood banks by donating to our project https://www.globalgiving.org/projects/help-ugandan-people-donate-safe-life-saving-blood/
