Whisper's Hospital report for May 2019

THANK YOU FOR SUPPORTING WHISPER'S MAGICAL HOSPITAL
To all our lovely donors. We thank you so much for supporting us to keep our Hospital operating. In the month of May we saved 973 lives. Through your support, we are able to change so many children's lives in Uganda.
WHISPER'S HOSPITAL REPORT FOR MAY 2019
Whisper’s Magical Children’s Hospital and Maternity registered 973 patients in the month of May. This is less compared to the 1174 number of patients received in April. The reduction in the number of patients could have been caused by the sensitization we do in the meetings with the parents of our patients for prevention of certain diseases for example malaria and conditions like anemia. The other reason could be changes in seasons for example, we receive fewer patients with malaria in the dry season compared to those received in the rainy season. So many lives were saved especially in Emergency ward where we receive over 5 dying children per day. This is all achieved with the help of our donors.
The number of anemic patients was a bit lower this time round compared to that of April. We managed to transfuse blood to 142 patients in the month of May. However, the number of patients with Malaria increased as compared to that of April, registering 201 patients with 36 children managed for Sickle cell disease.
This is Mercy one of the children in Emergency ward. Her mother traveled through various Hospitals looking for blood but all in vain. She was brought to Whisper's Magical Children's Hospital while unconscious due to severe malaria and anemia. The baby was resuscitated, transfused and fed through the N.G tube. The baby greatly improved after 3 days of close monitoring. She was safely discharged home and we are truly happy each day for lives we touch and save. Your generous donations are saving so many lives because through you we are able to buy the best machines and drugs to save the children's lives. Help us to keep our children's Hospital operating by supporting us even more. https://www.globalgiving.org/projects/keep-our-childrens-hospital-open/

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE DONATIONS
On 14th May, Whisper's Magical Hospital received a 40ft container full of medical donations from Supplies Over Seas and Healing The Children. Among the donations included; Dressings, Syringes, Oxygen consumables, Gloves among others. The donations helped us to reduce on the total amount of money spent on drugs and consumables and instead use the money for more charitable services. The donations of new medical equipment for example Infant incubators, Infant warmers, Pulse oximeters, Oxygen concentrators among others has helped us to enhance the life saving skills of our medical team hence saving so many lives of children. https://www.globalgiving.org/projects/keep-our-childrens-hospital-open/

BLOOD DONATION AT WHISPER'S HOSPITAL
Due to shortage of blood in Jinja, Whisper's Magical Children's Hospital together with TUSC(Transport For Ugandan Sick Children) organised a blood donation campaign at the Hospital with the aim of increasing blood supply in Uganda hence saving the lives of many Ugandan children and adults having anemia. Our staff members including nurses, social workers and doctors led the campaign to motivate the community to donate life saving blood. We are so happy that so many people came forward to donate blood which is going to help someone in need of it.

MALNOURISHED CHILDREN
We registered 13 malnutrition admissions. Nine out of the thirteen children received were severely malnourished with Grade 3 Oedema and skin desquamation. One patient had both malnutrition and TB but was treated well since we now get anti-TBs. The other patient died on arrival to the Hospital. The father delayed to bring the child, by the time he was brought to Emergency ward it was already too late. One patient left early before fully getting better because the mother requested for a self-dismissal. The rest of the malnourished children were treated and discharged back home. We thank all the people donating towards Help a malnourished child project https://www.globalgiving.org/projects/help-a-malnourished-child-with-whispers-hospital/. So many lives are saved because of you. The major causes of malnutrition as per the nutritionist's report were prolonged drought and domestic violence thus single mothers failing to take care of their abandoned children. SOME OF OUR CHARITABLE WORK
Whisper's Magical Children's Hospital spends over $135 a month on paying for x-rays for the children suspected of Tuberculosis. The families where these children come from cannot afford to pay for the x-rays since they come from very poor backgrounds. With the support of our donors we are able to get the financial support which we use to help such children especially from the nutritional ward and emergency ward. https://www.globalgiving.org/projects/keep-our-childrens-hospital-open/
